Corinthia Nevskij Palace Hotel, Saint-Petersburg, Russia

Armourcoat stone-cast panels in an Art Deco style have been specified for the five-star Corinthia Nevskij Palace Hotel, in Saint-Petersburg, Russia.

Part of an impressive new mixed development project by architect Aukett Fitzroy Robinson, the Corinthia Nevskij Palace Hotel is the result of the renovation of two historic 19th century buildings in the heart of Saint-Petersburg.  Retaining its classic facade, the hotel interior has been completely rebuilt offering a fine blend of Art Deco style and modern facilities. The property includes the 400 room hotel, together with 17,000m² of retail and office space.

A central feature of the hotel lobby includes a series of 38 unique ArmourCast stone-effect bas-relief panels which read as one continuous Art Deco design.  From an initial 2D concept drawing, Armourcoat designed each panel component and translated into 3-dimensions.  This reduced the depth of relief to a maximum of 26mm, and developed the layering to suit the overall design and proposed lighting.  Realistic computer rendered panels were then created for designer and client approval.  From these, CNC routed panel were then produced in negative, and used as moulds for the cast panels.
